A Tree Grower's Diary October Glory Red Maple
OCTOBER GLORY RED MAPLE FALL COLOR CHANGE
Photographs and text by Julie Walton Shaver
Compare the fall color from the 2004 chart, above, and the fall color in the 2005 chart, below.
In 2005, the fall color lasted only one week, compared with more than three weeks in 2004. Weather makes all the difference.
In late summer and early fall, 2005, there was very little rain, the daytime temperatures were hot, and the nighttime temperatures
were very warm. For optimum fall color, there should be a fair amount of summer and early fall rains, and fall temps need
to be warm in the daytime and cool at night, generally speaking.
